Here I am, five days removed from the last performance of "Horn". The last two shows went well.
Friday's show was almost dead solid perfect. The energy was high, people were picking up their cues and everything, and the battle went like clockwork. David Pruitt was sick, meaning that I had to sing "Wayfaring Stranger" in his stead. I think I hit it off pretty well. SAturday's show almost didn't happen. It rained all day long, and came down even harder close to showtime. We (KT, DC, JC and I) didn't get to sing "Danny Boy" one last time at DBI like we had hoped. However, once the show started, the rain started to lift, and we went on with the show. The fire dance was the best I've ever seen it. We finished off the show with a standing ovation. It was a show fraught with emotion, however. As we were singing "Wayfaring Stranger" during the "Down the Mountain" scene, I almost began to cry. I could see several other people onstage either crying or holding it back. Everything was wonderful for the final show. I'll post a final post-mortem later on. Right now, I'm gonna concentrate on getting some other much-needed stuff done. Not a bad show last night, considering the fact that I nearly had my leg broken during a scene change. I had moved one of the walls and was ready to go to the cabin to sing when Elizabeth (dear, dear Elizabeth!!) put a bench directly in my path. I tried dodging, but there was no room. I ended up banging up my left shin pretty good, thanks to that little brat.
My cannnon went off, which was good. Mike Tuten may have broken his toe, which is bad. We had to go on rain pace during Indian Country. Diona's not coming to see the show (dying grandmother). Kathy managed to attract another spider. Two shows to go. Yesterday was just a terrible day for me all around. I twisted my ankle TWICE while going down the hill. The cannon didn't go off AGAIN. I got a cinder in my eye during the battle. But none of that is more important than this.
While talking to my brother Phil yesterday, I found out that my dad had a heart incident Tuesday. He is supposed to go through testing today to determine just what it was, but I was worried all through the show. I have to admit, I was generally off my game yesterday, although the "FABD" scene kicked ass. It got the first applause I remember hearing after that scene ever. On the brighter side, we did get another standing ovation, and I found my leather jacket that had been missing since Actor's Nightmare. I'm thinking of having it bronzed, since its disappearance had led to my union with Kathy. :) BY THE NUMBERS: Through August 8: Rainouts: 3 Rain Delays: 3 Rain Pace calls: 15 Standing Ovations: 15 Understudy Substitutions: 4 Cannon misfires: 8 Rifle misfires: 3 Wednesday, August 08, 2001
My first posting as a 35-year old. Feels kinda strange saying that. Last night's show was... ehhh. I blanked during the "Fire and Be Damned" scene, and my cannon misfired yet again, so it was just fun fun fun for me. On the other hand, we got out 14th standing O of the night, so it turned out all right. We had several people from From This Day Forward here, as well as a reporter from some theatre magazine who was doing a story on outdoor dramas.
My birthday was all right. Kathy took me out to dinner at the Grapevine and treated me to a gyro and baklave for dessert. She also gave me several guitar accessories. I just hope my parents give me a guitar to go with it. After Horn, Kathy and I went to the Black Cat to hear some jazz. I have to say she looked absolutely beautiful last night. :) Final improv show is tonight. I'm hoping this'll be the best one yet. Four shows to go. Last night's show was nothing spectacular (except for my cannon misfiring AGAIN!). The most interesting thing about it was after, when we rehearsed Alex into the "Fire and be Damned" scene. The quartets also had their final turns in the house and town (at least in their proper arrangements. Because of Jenny Cole's principal role, and my appearance in FABD, the two of us will continue to be on the town this week, while David C. and Kathy join us.

A pretty good show tonight. No misfires (for me), no rainouts, rain delays, or rain paces, and no flying weaponry in my direction. And there was a standing O at the end of the night. Not bad at all.
David C. took us chorus members out to DBI to eat breakfast this morning. It was fantastic! I nearly stuffed myself there. Afterwards, Kathy and I went out to Tweetsie Railroad to see Beckie perform as Diamond Lil'. She did a great job (of course), but it was also nice to ride the Ferris Wheel and the chairlift with Kathy. (insert sugary "awwww" here) After that, we went to Mile High Subs and I got the biggest "foot long" sub I've seen in my life. Swear to God, it was at least 18" long. AND I got cheese fries on top of that. Basically I porked out today. It's been a long time since I've eaten that much and that well. Six shows to go. Another one of those rain pace shows tonight. We started that way, and ended up performing in a light rain. My cannon didn't go off AGAIN (that's five cannon misfires this season), but fortunately, I didn't suffer a rifle misfire or a flying sword injury.
That's about it, really, at least for now. At this point, I'm just counting the days down until the season ends. Seven to go. BY THE NUMBERS: Through August 3: Rainouts: 3 Rain Delays: 3 Rain Pace calls: 13 Standing Ovations: 12 Understudy Substitutions: 4 Cannon misfires: 5 Rifle misfires: 3
Not a very good show tonight. I think the cast hit the mythical "wall" as a group tonight. The energy was down, and there was just a weird feeling in the air.
The most interesting event this evening happened while I was out on the town. In between stops at our usual restaurants, Jenny and Lexi began asking me about what took me so long to get together with Kathy. I answered them honestly that I just don't have very good perception skills when it comes to a woman being interested in me. That, plus my fear of being rejected kept me from acting on my feelings for a long time. In any case, the two of them said that they had felt something between Kathy and me since almost the first day we were working together. After some teasing, Jenny told me that she sensed that the two of us have something that will last. We'll see about that; I can say that I'll definitely be working toward a long-term relationship on my end.
